Mark McGowen Tribute

Tribute to Mark McGowen

As Chair of the Australasian Gastrointestinal Trials Group (AGITG) I have great pleasure in announcing that the AGITG 2006 Annual Report is dedicated to the memory of the late Mr Mark McGowen. The AGITG is a not-for-profit organisation that facilitates and coordinates clinical trials research in gastrointestinal (GI) cancer.

Sadly, Mark McGowen lost his battle with a rare form of stomach cancer known as GIST (gastrointestinal stromal tumour) in late 2006. To honour Mark for his support in raising awareness of this rare disease and the AGITG, the Board of the AGITG have dedicated the AGITG 2006 Annual Report to him. Mark and his family raised funds and sourced corporate donations to support research and establish clinical trials in gastrointestinal cancer. The AGITG is deeply indebted to him and wish his family all the very best for the future.

The AGITG held a Tribute to Mark on Thursday November 29th at Bondi Icebergs Club. We also took the opportunity to launch a memorial fund in Mark’s name and to release a new information brochure about gastrointestinal cancer. The brochure that has been produced with a grant from the Clayton Utz Foundation will be distributed nationally and will provide the public with information about gastrointestinal cancer, clinical trials and the work of the AGITG.

Please consider making a donation in memory of Mark. Donations over $2 are tax deductible. Click the button "Make a Donation" to use AGITG's secure on-line donation facility.

To your good health!

Sincerely

John Zalcberg
